A roof majorly protects the building and so is the utmost part of any building. Basically roof enables you to protect yourself against rain but recently depending upon the nature of the building, the roof may also protect us from heat, sunlight, wind and likewise.

The nature of the roof and the characteristics they prevail are totally dependent upon the purpose of the building. And accordingly, there could be three major elements in the design of roof- material, construction and durability.

Just think of a situation when the show of your drawing room is not because of antiques rather due to water leaky ceilings. But this can be avoided by keeping a check on your actual needs regarding roofs and the material you use, type of construction you opt and the durability you want.

Materials- The material required for roofing varies quite largely. It can be from banana leaves or wheaten straw to even the laminated glass. But for centuries, the tiles made out of ceramic have been the unbeatable roofing material.

A large variety of materials are available in the market each with different specification .It can be slate which has a life of almost 200 years or it can be stone slab and is best known for its durability. Ceramic tile is a quite a costly material but also possess a long life. Keeping the health considerations apart, asbestos is a material that is very cheap.

Construction- Roof construction is a varied subject and in order to determine the construction of any roof, first pitching is to be understood. Pitching can be defined as the elevation or slope in degrees that is given to the roof.

Durability- It is purely a matter which is really to be looked into. Since roof is the least accessible part of any building ,so to repair the odd, it is next to impossible. Moreover the ill effects due to its damage are well known to everyone.

So these are certain elements that should be taken care off so as to keep the roof unsaturated and stops causing problem.
