Rain- That’s been the climate here in New York for what feels like an eternity or at least the last bunch of months or so anyway! Let me ask you, at what point did Seattle and the North East Coast swapplaces and I was left in the dark?
Since rain was the topic du-jour this past June/July it makes me recall a seminar on Branding I had the chance to see given by Ben Mack which I think had the title: “How to Be a Rainmaker” so something similar.
In this and later articles I am going to attempt to cover the most important pointsof the seminarwhich included: 1) Making lightning Strike, 2) How to keep the lightning striking and 3) Bottling your lightning.
In case your not acquainted who Bejamin Mack is, he is one of the foremost powers that be on Branding at present in the USA. He is considered legendary in certain Ad agency circles for this work. Over the years Ben has held tenure some of the most recognized advertizing agencies aorund and was a Vice President for Brand strategy for a major corporation.
Mainly what that meant was he was a strategist in charge of a ” Billion dollar budget (yes, I said ” BILLION or 500 Million dollar budget!). Do you think he knows what he is talking about? I certainly do, and not only has he worked magic for the companies he worked for, he is also a Professional Magician who at age 19 was the youngest recepient of the Award of Merit given by the Academy of Magical Arts.
For those unfamiliar with what a rainmaker is, a rainmaker is an individual indian shaman not withstanding who instead of bringing a good harvest for his people brings increased revenue to his business by the use of his or her political associations, ability to attract customer therfore making the people he works for happy.
As a marketer your primary function is to “up sell” people on their experience or understanding of reality. In Benjamin Mack’s book “Think Two Products Ahead” he speaks about how the most valuable branding really only occurs only when companies and small businesses think two products ahead rather than just thinking here and now and to build a thriving relationship with your clients or customers through your Brand. The section where Ben teaches how to construct your Legend Platform is worth much more than the price of the book itself!
A Brand (your brand, a Brand called YOU) is built through the use of Legends or communication that is repeated time and time again. These narratives can and should be allowed to say the opposite of each other and shall grow with age. So, if you’re going to pick a story that you create for your business to help grow your business (after all you are reading articles like this to help you become more profitable in your business arent you?) why not pick the type that grows stronger with age and you will indeed become “Legendary”.
Stay tuned for the next part in the series of articles covering Dr. Bens How to Become a Rainmaker.
